If Dottie Sang
Behind the Scene
RecoMyst is a Canadian musician and producer dedicated to giving voice to the written word. Based in Canada, RecoMyst sets the poetry of literary figures to period-authentic music — transporting listeners to the era in which the poems were born. The debut release, If Dottie Sang, draws on the wit and heartache of Dorothy Parker, reimagined through the sounds of the 1920s through 1950s.

Every RecoMyst song begins with a poem. Sometimes a verse arrives and a melody already waiting inside finds its home there — as if the words were written for it. Other times, the poem calls for something entirely new, and a melody is born from the rhythm of the language itself, the pauses, the longing between the lines.
Once the melody takes shape, the work of time travel begins. Deep in the music of the poem's era — the parlour songs, the jazz clubs, the radio broadcasts — the arrangements are built to carry the listener back. The result is music that feels at once timeless and intimately of its moment.
